It’s that time of year—cookie-making season.
I ran into a former colleague this week who knows my office always gets my “World (or at least) WORK famous” chocolate chip cookies, and she immediately asked about them and told me how much she misses them.
I always get a chuckle out of everyone wanting my recipe, because hand to God—the recipe is on the back of the Nestle semi-sweet bag. However, I’m never one to leave it at that, so I have my own 5 rules when baking that aren’t printed on the bag.
Grannie Cookie Code
Use Unsalted butter. Only.
Be Generous with the chips. Measure with your heart, as the saying goes.
Make the dough the night before. Refrigerate overnight, then put it into the preheated oven cold.
As soon as the edges begin to brown, they're done. Don't wait for the middle to look done.
Get them off that hot pan. This requires parchment paper. Pull the entire parchment sheet onto the counter/rack so residual heat doesn't keep baking them.
My boss could eat the whole batch himself, if not for his wife's intervention. It made gift-giving to him super easy; just bake a batch for him.
The rest of my office usually gets them twice a year, decorating day for the holidays and again on undecorating day. I love that this twice-a-year tradition has a former colleague asking for them when it’s been 4-5 years since they had one.
Go forth and bake—hit me up if you need a cookie tester!
P.S. It goes without saying: REAL vanilla is the only acceptable option.
